Hot or Not?: Age/ Hair colors

I was downtown a couple days ago and saw this:

She's a middle age looking (who knows how old she really was, she looked around 50) women with purple hair. Does age matter when it comes to dying your hair certain colors? like could you be too old or too young?

When exercising looks fun

Maybe I'm just weird because I like watching those paid programming/infomercials they show late at night. I really love the Time Life music collections (like The Soul Story and the Motown collection), The kitchen gadgets (I love cooking and eating lol), and the exercise machines. It looks like they're trying to make exercising fun by the looks of some of these machines, especially that Ab Circle.

Ab Circle

Ab Coaster

Cardio Twister

I think I could get down with these lol. It's all fun and games until you feel the pain though. Anybody use or have any of these machines? Leave a little review in the comment section.

OMG Cassie!

(Spotted on the Fly Guys's blog) This surprised the hell outta me...

She should just cut it all off.

Have you heard of Polyvore?

I know most of us like to go shopping...but I LOVE SHOPPING!! I don't always have the money to go. I HATE window shopping, so that's a no no. There's a way to shop without leaving the house.

Have you heard of Polyvore?

Well if you didn't, Polyvore is a site where you can make your own outfits and upload your own images. Ok so its not exactly shopping but you can plan and/or put outfits together without having to buy them first. Me (Flyygirl) Supa and Yung D have one.

Here are 2 of my outfits:

Fashion In Film (Starz)

I was watching Fashion In Film yesterday, a documentary you can find on Starz on demand. It talked about how films influence fashion and vice versa. They showed how "The Pirates of the Caribbean" inspired a runway show by designer Jean Paul Gaultier and much more. It was a good documentary and it gave me an idea...you'll see soon!

Rihanna's hair

Everybody was talking about Kanye's shag but I don't hear anything about Rihanna's hair. This is not cute. At first it reminded me of Ishboo from "All That" but then I looked at a vid of him and it was kinda OD but something still looks Ishbooish to me. Maybe if he took his ponytail out? I don't know but I LOVE all three bags!

Throwback Friday: Do You Love Me?

Throwback Post: Grandpa's making me seasick!

(Note: This was posted when we just started the blog so I don't think many people got to see it so we'll call it a recycled post---as in, we're gonna reuse it lol)

What do you think? Is this guy having a mid-life crisis or can waves be cute at any age?

Moving on up!: Payless edition

Remember back in the day when people would get teased for wearing Payless shoes? (And that could still be happening now) Well times has changed because Payless is stepping their game up! I don't know if its because of their cute commercials or if they have new designers but their shoes are looking better than they ever have. I was never one to care about what people thought, (ok maybe through my awkward preteen years) I buy whatever I think is cute. It doesn't matter where it came from, I can find something cute in ANY store...k almost any store lol. Anyway I bought a pair of heels from Payless a couple months ago and they're pretty comfortable. Here's some shoes from the commercial that I thought were cute and they're all under $30. I think two of them are under $20.

(I have these in black)

Hot or Not: Permanent Make-up

(Photo from Wiki)

I heard Permanent makeup has been around for a long time but the first time I ever heard about it was in High school. I think it was around 10th grade, I was being nosy and heard a girl in my class talking about getting her eyebrows tattooed on and I thought to myself...that is the stupidest thing I ever heard of! I have nothing against tattoos but the face is where I draw the line. From what I know there's permanent brows, eyeliner, beauty marks, lip color, lip liner...does our make up routine really take that long? And then the cost is crazy! At the nail salon I go to the cost for the permanent lip color is like $589! Not when lipstick cost like $12.

Chaz Lamar Shepherd- By Your Side

Do yall remember Chaz?

He's been in a bunch of shows like, In the house, The Parkers, Sister, sister and movies like Set it off and The Temptations. Maybe I'm just the late one because I never knew he was a singer. I just saw his video on TvOne today.

I always thought he was lip syncing to a studio singer but after watching this video I'm starting to think maybe it was him singing in The Temptations.

M.I.A: Angela and Vanessa

So they're not really M.I.A, I just haven't seen them in a while. I guess I'm just so used to seeing them every week, you know? with the reality show and all but the seasons over and I haven't seen them since. They added new pics on their Pastry myspace page from a fashion show in Vegas.

These outfits are a preview of Pastry spring 09. Yall know I'm a fiend for Cheetah/Leopard print so I'm really feeling Angela's outfit. It's cute how Vanessa tied the heel over the leggins.

I don't know about these wedge Pastry's but the outfits are cute!

3 ponytails?

This pic was taken awhile ago, I just forgot about it. The last time I wore three ponytails was in the 3rd of 4th grade. This guy is about 20 yrs old (we know him), and then he didn't even moisturize or anything lol. I don't even want to start on the pants because he was wearing a belt.

If you can't keep up with your hair guys...just cut it! It'll only run you about $12-$15.

Beary surprise

While shopping the other day, I saw this...

She looked like a red bear.

Who wore it better? Diana Vs. Britney

I know yall remember that nude diamond bodysuit Britney wore in her "Toxic" video but Diana also rocked a similar look but with a bunch of thick chains/necklaces for her "Everything is Everything" album cover.

The Fly Guys Of Motown

Most of yall know by now that Motown is celebrating their 50th anniversary all year long and because of that you'll see alot of (classic) Motown (style and music!) on this blog.

Motown is known for their great music but also their style. I'm gonna go through some of the Motown men trends. First up...

Processed hair: In the early years of Motown almost every guy had a process.

The Temptations

The Miracles (pretend like you don't see Claudette lol)

The Four Tops

Do you think this trend will come back? Imagine if boys started wearing their hair like that again? Just the thought of it is funny.

Fly suits, Bow ties, and Ruffles: In the beginning everybody had a polished look that included ruffles, bow ties, and suits in a variety of colors and styles. Some had the high waisted pants, long blazers, short blazers, and most were high water. (To think that you get teased if you wear them now lol)

The Miracles
The Tops

The Tempts

Young Stevie
As you can see lil Stevie's rockin all three at the same time.

Afros: After awhile they went back to fros and they came in an a variety of sizes and shapes. Guess they got tired of that burning sensation from the lye lol.

David Ruffin

The Tempts
Marvin Gaye
The Jackson 5

Funky: The 70's brought the psychedelic, funk, and disco era. A more relaxed funky look came along with that. Flashy suits, sequined vests, fringe, and bright colors.

The Tempts

Marvin Gaye

The Jackson 5

Stevie

The Commodores

The Tempts

The Miracles
Rick James

Actually Rick needs his own category because his style is just unique. There's nothing I can compare it to...especially that hair.

Honorable mentions: Some of these are not really associated with style but they're just some things that I noticed and reminds me of the Motown men.

David black rimmed glasses

The four headed mic

The handkerchief in the pocket

Pinky rings

Long sideburns, side parts, thin mustaches and goatees

That's the end of our trip through Motown's men fashion. Did I leave anything out?

Leave it in a comment!

Coming soon...The Fly Girls of Motown!

Maxi dresses!

I was over at Beyonce's site when I came across this pic.

It's supposed to be for a new video or something but I just thought the dress was so pretty! I always liked maxi dresses but never had the guts to wear one because of my butt. The dress is long so you basically see the silhouette of your body so my butt is gonna be seriously sticking out. That's gonna cause too much unwanted attention lol, but this year I don't care. I'm really thinking about getting one and in a bright color like hot pink or blue. Here's a couple of my choices:

Forever 21 $22.80

Delias $44.50

Victoria's Secret $98

Alloy $39.50

Dr.jays $58.99

Rip The Runway 09

Anyone watch Rip The Runway last night?. Here's some of my favorite looks (click the Designers name for more info and pics):

Byron Lars

Johnny Vincent
(Yung D's fave look)

Monif C

Wasn't she on Tyra show?

(My Fave)

Of course with all the fly fashion they had some good music too. T.I., Mavado, G.S. boys (wtf is the "Stanky Legg"?) Bobby V., Keri Hilson, Busta and Ron Browz (preformed that annoying Arab money song) and The Dream with Fab.

He was wearing the cutest jacket! I need that...in hot pink. As usual Toccara was all up and down the runway. She didn't even win ANTM and she's the only one I see all the time. I like the short cut on her. I couldn't embed any of the performances but if you wanna see them, Click Here!

When did Omarion cut his hair?

And where was I? I was over at BET.com when I saw this. I don't know how old this pic is but it sure surprised me. All the guys are getting hair cuts...are braids out? lol Who's next? Lloyd?

Randomness: Black musical movie weekend

Atleast that's what it should be called. I looked on the TV guide and its nothing but Black musical movies and documentaries coming on this weekend. Starting Saturday at 10:30am on channel thirteen "My Music: My Generation--The 60's" is coming on. it will be folk rock, r and b, and pop hits from the 60's, I'm gonna catch some of that because I know the Temptations and Motown has to be included. Then at 12pm on TvOne...

The Little Richard Story. I didn't even know there was a movie about Little Richard out, I saw it for the first time a couple of months ago and loved it! If you like Leon you will like this movie...you don't even have to like Little Richard lol. Leon is just entertainment. Also at 12pm on the Ovation channel, The Mile Davis Story is coming on. After that at 2pm there's a James Brown documentary type thing with concert footage and interviews called James Brown: The Man, The Music, and The Message. At 3pm on Ovation there will be a Thelonious Monk documentary and on TV one at the same time Unsung with The Clark Sisters and Phyllis Hyman. At 5:30 on TvOne...

The Five Heartbeats! Directed by and starring Robert Townsend. Its a movie about a fictional (although I heard/read it was loosely based on The Dells) music group and the Challenges they faced, like drugs and alcohol, member changes, crossing over and thing like that. Leon's in this one too. Then at 7pm on Ion/WPXN, a movie about the best group ever...

The Temptations! I saw this movie about a gazillion times lol. Its practically burned in my brain. This movie is about The Classic 5 era of The Temptations (The reason why Dennis and the later added Tempts aren't really focused on). This movie will take you on an emotional roller coaster lol.It will make you laugh, cry, sing, dance, pissed off, sad, etc. It's at the top of my fave list so make sure you catch it! (Leon's in this too, damn! he's just in all the music movies lol). Then at 8pm on TvOne , Saturday and Sunday...

The Jacksons: An American Dream! Another one of my favorites! This movie takes you through the rise of fame from the young Jackson 5 to the adult Jackson 5 and a little of the solo Micheal. It only focuses on the kids in the group so no info on Janet, Latoya, and the other kids. Who doesn't know about the Jacksons? so yall know what to expect. Sunday at 10pm on channel thirteen, Rock, Rhythm & Doo Wop is coming on. There's a bunch of people performing but I only know Little Richard lol. On Ovation channel Sunday is basically Jazz day. Everything jazz will be on that channel. OK...I'm done.

I'm gonna leave yall with a taste of what yall would see if you tune in:

Welcome to the jungle

Hey People! I know I've been gone for awhile but I'm back. Its nice to see that people were still coming lol. It's February aka Black history month and I've been celebrating all month long lol but I will be posting regularly starting tomorrow.

Remember my mild obsession with leopard? I found the cutest leopard flats!
I don't know if I'm gonna get them though because they are purple and green, I showed them to my mom and she looked at me like I was stupid(we have very different taste lol)...but they are cute.

Throwback Friday: Night and Day

This week I picked one of my faves by Ray Charles called "Night and day". I could just put the song up but I'll show this instead:

I don't care if you never saw an episode of The Cosby Show in your life...you knew or at least heard about this one. Rudy is toooo cute here!

And Cliff's face at 1:45---- Priceless!

Enjoy!

P.s. I'm aware that it says Thursday at the top of the post...stuff happens lol

Doc Martens

I hate these boots!!! Who ever made these boots must have been drunk, high...I dont know but something had to be wrong with them. What made them think these are cute? These look just like a pair that this girl I know has! When I get a picture of those I'll put them up.

What do you think of them?

J Hud sings the National Anthem

I knew I wanted to see the Superbowl for a reason but due to eating too many hot wings I completely forgot that Jennifer Hudson was supposed to sing The National Anthem. Well thanks to Youtube I got to see it and if you haven't, here you go:

She sounded good and looked good, I loved the jacket and shoes!

Motown celebrates its 50th anniversary!

There is sooooo much I can say but I think this video sums it up nicely.

To be continued...
